5BJacksonP Memphis Essay

Page history last edited by 5BJackson 15 years, 1 month ago

There are many lively, historic, and exciting sites scattered throughout the municipality of Memphis, TN, but I would like to say something about my chosen three. One of the most popular is Beale Street. I am also an adherent of Huey's, but don't forget the one-and-only Peabody Place. These sites are all jam packed with R&R, games, mouthwatering meals, and meaningful music. Beale Street, which is full of jazz, soul, blues and wacky shops with everything ranging from Japanese sweets to life-size cardboard cutouts. Huey’s, which has the most delectable, melt-in-your-mouth menu in the whole metropolis. Last but not least, the Peabody Place, which is overloaded with 4 floors of entertainment and sugary delicacies, certainly this is not your ordinary shopping mall. Memphis is a very in vogue borough.

First off, we have Beale Street. Overflowing with musicians of all kind, this is one of the busiest hot spots in Memphis. Due to overwhelming popularity, the strip of rest and relaxation has been blocked off from all automobiles. One of the lane's more popular locations is a store called Schwab’s. Schwab’s is one of the most interesting stores I've ever stepped foot in. Confectionary, food, beverages, clothes, trinkets, knickknacks, furniture, jewelry, the list goes on forever. As they say, “If you can't find it at Schwab’s, your better off without it." Memphis is mainly known for music, and you can find it all on Beale Street! From blues to rap to rock to soul, Memphis is one of the most ear-friendly cities in the world. But hold on to your wallets, for I am about to describe the most captivating super-malls in the world.

Our next sojourn is the Peabody Place, located in Downtown Memphis. This extravaganza is amusement for everyone, with a Putt-Putt, a fully dimensioned movie theater, and much more. Also inside of this mammoth structure, is a colossal Jillian's with a full size bowling alley, arcade games, and modern virtual reality games that put you in the driver's seat. Jillian's also includes a couple of great restaurants, not to mention the bowling alley soda bar. But Jillian's is no the only place you can catch some cuisine. The complex has many restaurants and dessert shops, with ice cream sundaes and chocolate smothered cinnamon buns, this mall has it all. This isn't Memphis' only scene with live music, great snacks, and family fun. But don't pronounce this your favorite whereabouts in the city quite yet, because we still have Huey's.

Our last point of interest is Huey's Restaurant. Let me describe the diner for you. Outside, Huey's has a large patio, for enjoying your meal outside under a green and white striped awning. Huey's logo is of Prospector Pete, leaning on a barrel flipping a coin. Inside, visitors who brought pens bedaub the walls with works of modern art and crazy drawings. The partitions are not the only place to gawk, however, for the ceiling is layered with toothpicks. Many powerful-lunged men, women, and ankle-biters have shot these stick out of their straws and stayed in the weak roof. Every now and then, the staff collects all the toothpicks in the roof, and holds a contest to see how many toothpicks were collected in total. Started in 1970 by Thomas Boggs with a mouthwatering menu, Huey's has it all.  With in the flesh performances on weekends, Huey's is a restaurant besotted by all Memphians.

The peregrination is over, but I think I covered all the basic excitement in this borough! In my opinion, Memphis is one of the most entertaining cities in the world. Beale Street, The Peabody Place, Huey's, food, music, and much more is here. In this urban area, something new is hiding behind every corner. Fun is hiding in the backstreets, with music in the cracks and crevices of buildings. Don't underestimate the excitement, for Memphis is one of the most dernier cri places around.
