It’s a well-kept secret, but well-known companies use sweatshops and child labor to make their product. The real problem is though, “ Companies are using sweatshops and child labor just to stay competitive.” There are three ways I know of to answer this problem. The use of marches, boycotts, and advertisement could end this monumental problem. If we use these methods correctly we could win the fight against child labor. Most people are unaware of this problem, so these methods will let others know about child labor. If others know, they will also help.
An organized march is an effective way to get the attention of the politicians and the public. The Children’s Crusade was one of many effective marches. One of these marches can be more effective today because of television and radio, and these sorts of broadcasts can let almost every household in the United States know what these children go through every day. Some of these people who see this off of the news or hear it from the radio could help me end these problem of unjust child labor. Then others who saw the commercial would tell others and hopefully they would tell others… So the use of marches could be very helpful, and people would lead by action and others will follow because they want to be like them.
Product boycotts against companies that use child labor could also be very compelling. When people stop buying a certain product it jeopardizes the companies products; this also grabs the owners attention because the owners objective is to make money. Because nobody buys their product, they will lose money. Because they have to pay the kids and few adults they use for making the product and if they don’t make much money and they have to pay their workers they are losing lots of money. People don’t realize how effective this boycott can be. If people start to company boycott, [company boycotts are when people stop buying one companies product to try to make them go out of business] others would know how devastating it could be to the company. If more people know more people can boycott, and that means it can penetrate the owners fortress and convince him to stop using child labor. So this certain form of boycott can be effective by pressuring the owners to terminate the use of child labor or go out of business.
Just like those sad and depressing dog abuse ads that make you feel really sad for the dog and want to help them, we could coerce people to help us end child labor by advertisement and making people feel really bad and their sympathy will do the rest. Television or radio advertisements reach almost every person in the United States. Imagine how many people would donate or help us to stop child labor. This will increase the amount of awareness for this problem. The more people that know about the problem of child labor the more people that can help stop it. Most people are not aware of the crisis that is happening with child labor and the point of advertisement is to increase awareness. So it is a perfect match to have advertisements to help the fight against child labor.
Companies using child labor to stay competitive is a gargantuan problem. In orders to solve this problem there are a few ways I have discovered through research that would help enormously to end this problem. The use of marches, boycotts, and advertisements could help me end the problem of child labor. They all have individual methods, but they all have the same conclusion. These methods will get the attention of politicians, company owners, and the public. The bottom line is we need to increase the awareness if this problem will ever be solved.
