“Limitations only go so far.” I plan to make Robert Hensel’s quote even truer by addressing the obvious problems- disabled people have trouble executing tasks that seem commonplace and straightforward to us. For example, walking through a narrow doorway or skirting an obstruction will stop a wheelchair user in their tracks. We, however, can move through these obstacles easily. For them, navigating a house would be like going through a minefield. Careful planning is needed to successfully access their destination. Disabled people also experience problems beside mobility. Jobs are doubly hard to find because of hard task and non-disability friendly workspaces. I intend to help solve these issues in our town, state, and world.
For my scheme, the first issue to address is housing. The main phase of my plan is to build a complex composed of multiple buildings to house disabled people. This design will allow for disabled people to have some company. The complex will be staffed. If any of the individuals need something, they will be heard out as soon as possible. Also, included in the main building is a gym and track for exercise. The track will be extra wide for wheelchair users, and the gym will be fitted specifically for wheelchair basketball. However, housing is not the only matter that requires fixing.
Mobility is the most restricting facet of being disabled. In our complex, I plan to use wheelchair friendly designs to aid the movement of the residents. Ramps, wide hallways, and soft turns are a necessary part of my design. These features will be integrated into the design as to keep style in mind. Also, the bathrooms will be easy to use. Grab bars and step free showers can be helpful. This building will be revolutionary in its ease of use to wheelchairs.
For people everywhere, a website will offer a job search as well as publicize the complex. The website will have a navigation panel, sleek appearance, search box, and easy to read font. This will assist in keeping the visitors interested. For disabled people in our state, a job search specifically for them will display information on disability friendly jobs. This is not its only benefit, though. Using banners, forums, and other forms of link swapping, the website will score hits and raise publicity of the complex. This would also help with participation in fundraisers for upkeep and whatnot. This website would be a good complement to the complex.
In conclusion, although disabled people do experience trouble in carrying out certain functions, I can do my bit to help. By building a complex and making it disability friendly, I can help in our community. Within my state, I can make a difference by having a job finder for the disabled. In our world, I can make a difference by influencing others to do the same. I believe that by doing these things, I can make the world a better place.
